The Dubai Duty Free Championships will witness its 24th edition, taking place from the 18th to the 24th of February 2024. The second WTA 1000 event of the season will conclude the Middle East Swing before the 'Sunshine Double' in the United States and will feature prominent figures from the WTA Tour.
Dubai will mark Aryna Sabalenka's return after her Australian Open triumph, as she opted to skip the Qatar Open last week for some well-deserved rest. The Belarusian is the second seed and will need to deliver a strong performance to maintain her position against Iga Swiatek's pursuit of the world No. 1 spot.
Precisely, the Polish player will be the top favourite, especially following her third consecutive Qatar Open title on Saturday, February 17, defeating Elena Rybakina 7-6(8), 6-2. The Kazakhstani player will be the fourth seed in a main draw featuring only 15 players within the top-20.
Injuries have led to the absence of the defending champion Barbora Krejcikova (No. 12), who will experience a significant drop in the rankings. Additionally, Jessica Pegula (No. 5), Karolina Muchova (No. 10), Madison Keys (No. 16), and Petra Kvitova (No. 18), due to her pregnancy, will not be participating.
