The top semi-final taking place in the
Billie Jean King Cup will see USA face off against Russia after victories over Spain and France on Wednesday.
The former faced a must-win situation after losing to Slovakia 2-1 in their Group C on Tuesday and
Sloane Stephens and
Danielle Collins stepped up to the plate.
The 18-time winners of the formerly known Fed Cup, they showed their pedigree with Stephens defeating Nuria Parrizas-Diaz 6-4, 6-4, while Collins breezed past Spain's top name, Sara Sorribes Tormo 6-1, 6-0 in just under an hour to seal it.
While for Russia, they only needed one win from their match against France to advance after easing past Canada 3-0.
It was Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova who delivered rallying to defeat Alize Cornet 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 to earn Russia their semi-final spot.
Clara Burel kept France's hopes alive winning the opening singles seeing off Ekaterina Alexandrova 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 but the Russians won the doubles for an overall 2-1 win.
As well as them, Australia are currently facing Belarus as of time of writing with Storm Sanders and Ajla Tomljanovic anchoring the charge for Australia.
