Venus Williams tried her best but she was beaten by Alison van Uytvanck in two sets while Badosa overcame a slow start to win three.
Venus Williams was handed a very tough draw at the US Open having to play a very solid Alison van Uytvanck. The Belgian was indeed very solid, especially early in the match smashing Williams 6-1. The American tried to be aggressive but committed far too many mistakes. The 2nd set was much better and truly competitive.
Venus played well opting to take a backseat in this one and allow the Belgian to attack. She did but with mixed results. Venus had an early lead 2-0 but gave it back not long after 3-3. We saw break points later but neither player was able to convert and a tiebreak followed. Despite being up 3-1, Venus faltered and the Belgian escaped 7-5.
Joining her in the next round will be Paula Badosa who lost the first set Lesia Tsurenko taking some time to adjust to the balls she hates. She had issues in the 2nd set as well despite being up 3-1 early. Tsurenko battled back to 3-3 and Badosa then squandered a few more leads to end up in a tiebreak which she pulled out.
The final set was finally a good one where she was the better player from start to finish ending it with 6-3.
