Victoria Azarenka was up a set and a break against Jil Teichmann but the Swiss player was able to battle back and win the match. 4-6 7-5 7-6(5).
The first set between these players was a rather interesting one but the player who served better won it in the end. It was Victoria Azarenka as her serve allowed her to win points much easier than her opponent. She did not need to be overly aggressive in rallies, something Teichmann had to be. It did not work out for her as she had more errors than winners.
In the 2nd set that continued with Azaerank applying early pressure on her opponent. The first break point was saved by Teichmann but she lost her next service game to give Azarenka the lead. Vika cruised on her own service games and faced very few issues until then. At 4-3, Teichmann started playing much more aggressively and it worked.
She broke back to make it 4-4 then saved some break points to take a 5-4 lead. Eventually, the risky play paid off immensely when she won the 2nd set with 7-5. Teichmann took an early 2-0 lead thanks to some decent shot-making again but gave it right back to make it 2-2. Azarenka played a fabulous return game at 4-4 to take a 5-4 lead but failed to close it out.
We arrived in the match tiebreak with Teichmann outplaying an erratic Azarenka 10-5. A great win for the Swiss number one as she moves on to round four of the French Open.
