“You sure…? Okay!” 💻✍️ Safe to say a LAPTOP is one of the crazier items @CocoGauff has signed for a fan? 😅 #ChinaOpen
After becoming a household name in the tennis community, American prodigy Coco Gauff has seen her share of autograph sessions. However, the former World No.2 was taken aback when a fan presented her with a unique item at a meet and greet this week at the 2024 China Open.
Gauff had a subpar performance during the North American summer hardcourt swing. The Atlanta native was eliminated in the second round at both the Canada Open and the Cincinnati Open, where she was the defending champion. Furthermore, she failed to defend her crown at Flushing Meadows, after being ousted by compatriot Emma Navarro in the fourth round.
The 2023 US Open champion was with fans courtside at the China National Tennis Centre in Beijing, which is the venue for this year's edition of the China Open. After her practice session, Gauff began signing fan items which ranged from tennis balls to gear. However, a fan presented Gauff with a laptop, which took the American by surprise.
"You sure? Okay," said an amused Gauff.
The 20-year old is the fourth seed at the event, and will kick off her campaign on Thursday, September 26 after receiving a bye in the first round.
