Madison Keys has been utterly superb since her return from injury earlier in the year but in one of her biggest matches of the season, she was left distressed and retiring in tears against
Jasmine Paolini at
Wimbledon.
Paolini advanced 6-3, 6-7(6), 5-5 to reach her first Quarter-Final at SW19 thus backing up her run to the final at Roland Garros and also a superb showing at Eastbourne.
The Roland Garros finalist had come within two points of victory in the second set tie-break which she forced from 5-1 down. In the decider, Paolini was on the brink of defeat. The lead was cut to 5-4 as the American left the court for a medical timeout and was in tears on resumption particularly when serving.
She hugged Paolini visibly distraught as she retired. Also likely due to the golden opportunity that she had to let slip due to injury.
