The WTA
tennis players
Aryna Sabalenka,
Leylah Fernandez,
Bianca Andreescu,
Coco Gauff,
Jessica Pegula, and Rebecca Marino chose their dream hockey draft.
A fantastic
week took place at the WTA National Bank Open Montreal, culminating in Jessica
Pegula's commanding triumph in the final over Russian Liudmila Samsonova with a
score of 6-1, 6-0 in just fifty minutes of play.
During the
tournament days, several WTA figures were interviewed to learn how they would
compose their own hockey draft with other players from the Hologic WTA Tour.
Each had to select a goalkeeper, two defense players, a right wing, a left
wing, and a center, also every athlete included herself on the team.
The
Belarusian world No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka chose Elise Mertens (GK), Swiatek and
Pegula (DF), Jabeur (LW), Badosa (C), and herself as a right wing.
In the team
of the former Grand Slam champiion Bianca Andreescu, she picked herself as LW.
She included Gabriela Dabrowski (GK), Daria Kasatkina and Leylah Fernandez
(DF), Sabalenka (RW), and Rybakina (C).
Former US
Open finalist Fernandez chose to play as Left Wing and picked Taylor Townsend
(GK), Marie Bouzkova and Caroline Wozniacki (DF), Karolina Muchova (RW), and
Alycia Parks (C).
Coco Gauff
partnered with her compatriot Sloane Stephens as defenders. Similar to
Fernandez, she decided on Townsend as GK and selected powerful attackers,
Rybakina (RW), Maria Sakkari (LW), and former tennis player Serena Williams
(C).
The
eventual Canadian Open champion Jessica Pegula put together a team with a mix
of some of the best forehands and backhands on the tour. Luiza Stefani as GK,
Sabalenka and Rybakina (DF), Madison Keys (RW), Petra Kvitova (LW), and herself
as (C).
Finally,
the local tennis player Rebecca Marino also composed her team with Gabriela
Dabrowski (GK), Iga Swiatek and Caroline Wozniacki (DF), Beatriz Haddad Maia
(LW), Sabalenka (C), and herself as RW.
