Venus
Williams reacted to a painting of herself in a New York gallery with pictures on
her social media.
The
43-year-old tennis champion took to social media to share a captivating
photograph of herself standing in front of a portrait created by emerging art
sensation Anna Weyant.
This
striking depiction, featuring Williams in an elegant black dress, is part of
Weyant's solo exhibition at the Gagosian Gallery in New York.
Beyond her
athletic prowess, Williams is proving to be a passionate art enthusiast and
collector off the court. Exploring her artistic inclinations, she has traversed
the global art scene, immersing herself in museums, galleries, and exhibitions,
reflecting her drive for excellence both on and off the court.
Among her
art ventures, 7-time Grand Slam champion recently posted on social media about
her first encounter with the works of the enigmatic street artist Banksy at the
Moco Museum in Amsterdam.
"Now I
will live forever🌟 @annaweyant 🦄,"
Venus Williams wrote on Instagram.
Regarding
tennis, Williams hasn't had much success on the court recently. The American
recently suffered a first-round defeat against her compatriot Madison Keys at
the 2023 Canadian Open in Montreal. Keys defeated Williams 6-2, 7-5 in a match
that lasted for an hour and 52 minutes.
On Monday,
she will make her debut in the first round of the Cincinnati Open and faces a
tough draw as she'll be playing against the 16th seed Veronika Kudermetova. This
will be the Russian's first tournament in the hardcourt swing, as her last
official match was in the second round of Wimbledon, where she was defeated by
Marketa Vondrousova.
This will
be Williams' final tournament before her return to the US Open at the end of
the month, where she has received a wild card as a 2-time champion in 2000 and
2001, as well as being a women's doubles champion alongside her sister Serena
Williams in 1999 and 2009.
