The 2026
Cincinnati Open is set to take place between 13-23 August on the ATP 1000 circuit with Carlos Alcaraz defending champion although he won't actually defend his title in Mason, Ohio.
Jannik Sinner is currently top seed albeit the hopes of him even being involved are very slim also. He has had to head back for tests in his home country of Italy so there are murky waters ahead perhaps. Alexander Zverev as a result would perhaps take on the role of defacto top seed alongside Felix Auger-Aliassime and Alex de Minaur as well as Ben Shelton. Novak Djokovic though is currently set to play in Cincinnati.
It is the last real test ahead of the US Open though with both ATP and WTA this week before stops in Winston-Salem and Cleveland the week before the main event. So one final test for the big tournament.

Predictions Cincinnati Open ATP
Lucas Michael, Editor for TennisUpToDate.com sees Arthur FIls winning the title.
The North American hardcourt swing is all about quick turnarounds, and none is more apparent than the switch from Montreal to Ohio as the Cincinnati Open gets underway. Similar to its prior Masters 1000 tournament, the field is wide open with a couple of exceptions who are favourite to win the title.
Alexander Zverev was not at his best in Canada, expelling any consistency he had drawn up throughout the year. Novak Djokovic did not bother showing up but does make a return to Cincinnati in a bid to win a first Masters 1000 title since the 2023 Paris Masters.
I doubt Ben Shelton will turn up after his Canadian Open run, and the form has to be questioned surrounding Alex de Minaur and possibly Daniil Medvedev, although he does like a hardcourt. Taylor Fritz is a contender if he can stay fit with outside shouts coming through Joao Fonseca, Jakub Mensik and definitely Felix Auger-Aliassime if he is back up to speed.
For the winner, I can see another possible surprise in store. Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner would obviously be one of my choices if they were competing, and I am not totally convinced on Zverev or Djokovic. I am going to back a certain Arthur Fils for a maiden Masters 1000 title. His form has been very impressive and if he can unlock that winning combination in the business end of events, that could be a huge gamechanger.
*** Arthur Fils
** Alexander Zverev, Felix Auger-Aliassime
* Taylor Fritz, Novak Djokovic, Joao Fonseca
Carlos Alcaraz won't defend his title this time around.
Samuel Gill, Head Editor for TennisUpToDate.com sees Alexander Zverev winning the title.
I put Rafa Jodar up there for the title given he lost out late in Canada so will be fresher than Shelton and Nakashima. So he will be my first pick but also given his early loss I also put Alexander Zverev up there.
Zverev lost early in Canada so in my view is very much prime placed for a good week. Novak Djokovic as ever is an enigma but could have a good week. Same for the likes of Alex de Minaur, Taylor Fritz among others.
Either way it is open season for perhaps an interesting name to come through the pack and stake their claim!
***.Alexander Zverev
** Rafa Jodar, Novak Djokovic
* Alex de Minaur, Taylor Fritz
Cristhian Avila, Editor for TennisUpToDate.com sees Rafael Jodar winning it.
It’s difficult to pick a clear favorite, especially after most of the top-10 players were eliminated early in the Canadian Open. Without Sinner or Alcaraz in the draw, the field feels wide open and surprises seem more likely than ever. Rafael Jodar is the player with the strongest momentum right now and already looks capable of making a genuine title run in Cincinnati after another deep campaign in Montreal.
Jakub Mensik and Arthur Fils are two other names I see making a major impact. Both have the talent to break into the top 10 this season, and a deep run at a Masters 1000 could elevate them to a new level on the Tour. Cincinnati feels like the kind of tournament where another unexpected champion could emerge.
Experience could still prove decisive, though. Daniil Medvedev has quietly put together a strong season and may only need one confidence-boosting week to return to the latter stages of a major event. Taylor Fritz and Casper Ruud are the experienced players I rate most highly here, while I don’t see Zverev, Auger-Aliassime or De Minaur as serious title contenders on this occasion.
