Venus Williams is out of the Emilia-Romagna Open after losing a 1st round match against Anna Schmiedlova.
The American did not play a good match against Schmiedlova losing 7-5 2-6 2-6. The 40-year old American was down 5-2 in the opening set before miraculously turning it around to win it 7-5. As the match went on however her level eroded with Schmiedlova winning the remaining sets 6-2 6-2.
After going down 4-1 in the 2nd set Williams had a confrontation with the umpire after receiving a time violation. Heavy winds were blowing at that time and Williams took more time than was allowed between servers prompting the umpire to give her a time violation.
Willaims approached the umpire and a very interesting exchange followed. Williams said:
"I can't control God. I'm just saying that wind blows and there is nothing I can do about that."
The umpire explained his reasoning for the call but Williams was not having any of it once more saying:
"I can't control God, talk to him."
While saying it Williams pointed her finger up to the sky and walked away in a very interesting manner. Take a look below at the exchange:
