Pablo Andujar has been on the tour a very long time but his 2nd round match against
Roger Federer at the
Geneva Open will be the first time they play each other.
The fact that Pablo Andujar and Roger Federer never played before is quite something considering they have both played on the Tour for such a long time. Andujar was able to win his 1st round match against Jordan Thompson setting up a clash with Federer in R2.
The match was supposed to be played on Wednesday but got moved to Tuesday with the starting time at 15:00 CET. Ahead of the match, Andujar said:
“[I am] really, really excited. It was something that I wanted, to have a match against Roger, just to tell my kids and my grandkids when I get older that I played him"
Andujar has played Djokovic and Nadal before but never Federer. Speaking about them he said:
“I think when you play Rafa, Novak and Roger, these guys became myths. [They are] something above the sport. Of course, the elegance that Roger has is something amazing and that [is] in all the tennis schools, we see him with the technique and everything."
Federer will be playing only his 2nd event since the 2020 Australian Open and the Swiss maestro is very excited to get his feet wet on clay. He believes it will be beneficial for him in the long run with his goals being Wimbledon and the Olympics..
