Defending champion Yafan Wang and Czech Marie Bouzkova were among the seeded players to be eliminated at the 2020 Abierto Mexicano Telcel in Acapulco on Monday.

The second-seeded Wang fell to unseeded compatriot Xiyu Wang 4-6 6-7(8) in an hour and 50 minutes. After a poor showing in Hua Hin two weeks ago, Yafan Wang is still looking for her second win of the season.
Tatjana Maria defeated third-seeded Bouzkova 6-4 1-6 6-2, as the German veteran overcame a sluggish second set to secure the victory.
Great Britain's Heather Watson rallied from a set down to battle past Coco Vandeweghe 4-6 6-4 6-4 in two and a half hours. The former World No.10 has seen her ranking drop to No.193, and is yet to win a Tour-level match this season.
Japan's Nao Hibino defeated Arantxa Rus 6-3 6-1, and the eighth seed has been impressive after reaching the Hua Hin semifinals two weeks ago. Anastasia Potapova overcame Anna Karolina Schmiedlova 4-6 7-5 6-1, while Slovenian Tamara Zidansek defeated Russian qualifier Anna Kalinskaya.
Former World No.9 Kateryna Bondarenko was also in action, battling past Montenegro's Danka Kovinic 6-7(7) 6-4 6-2 in two hours and 47 minutes.
