It's been a very entertaining week of tennis in Cincinnati that will conclude with a final between top seed Barty and breakout start Teichmann. Both of these players played great tennis and deserved to be in the final. Before arriving in North American Teichmann did not play for 3 weeks.
She lost in Montreal to an in-form Collins before going on a tear in Cincinnati. Cirstea, Pera, Osaka, Bencic and Pliskova all fell consecutively propelling Teichmann to her first big final in her career. Most of those wins came from precise and consistent baseline play with an underrated serve playing a major factor as well.
Ashleigh Barty dominated her way into the Cincinnati final, quite literally. Watson, Azarenka, Krejcikova and Kerber were her opponents and neither won a set. Barty is now 10-0 on North American hard courts in 2021 capturing the Miami Masters title earlier in the year.
Her play has been stellar all around, from serving to baseline play with her consistency a key factor as well. When things are clicking like this for Barty she is hard to stop but Teichmann will play without pressure which might help her produce an inspired effort. They never played so far but anything else than a Barty win would be a big surprise.
