The US Open 2025 has entered the final phase with two of the biggest matches remaining. The first will be the women’s singles final, which will be played between world number one and defending champion Aryna Sabalenka and America’s Amanda Anisimova on Saturday.
Sabalenka defeated last year’s runner-up Jessica Pegula in the semifinal with a score of 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. On the other hand, Anisimova defeated the former world number one Naomi Osaka with a score of 6-7, 7-6, 6-3. It will be the 10th meeting between the two players in professional tennis. In the previous nine meetings, Anisimova had a clear advantage as she came out on top on six occasions. Their most recent meeting came in the semifinal of Wimbledon, where Anisimova emerged victorious with a score of 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
For Sabalenka, the final is another opportunity to showcase her talent at the highest level. The reigning world number one will be playing her third Grand Slam final this year. The previous two did not go to plan for Sabalenka as she ended up losing both after a hard-fought contest, and on both occasions, she came second-best against an American player. At the Australian Open, America’s Madison Keys defeated Sabalenka in the final with a score of 6–3, 2–6, 7–5. At the French Open, Sabalenka lost to Coco Gauff with a score of 6–7(5–7), 6–2, 6–4. Therefore, Sabalenka will be hoping that she will be third-time lucky against an American player in the final of a major event on Saturday.
On the other hand, for Anisimova, the final is of greater significance. Anisimova will be featuring in her second Grand Slam final on Saturday, and the previous one was nothing short of a horror dream. Anisimova’s only appearance in the final of the Grand Slam came at Wimbledon earlier this year, where she became the first women’s player in more than 100 years to lose a final of the competition without winning a single game. Anisimova was understandably asked about how she is looking to prepare for the US Open final after a heartbreak in London. In response to that, Anisimova stated that she was surprised by her performance leading up to the final at Wimbledon, which has not been the case in New York, where she has more belief in herself.

Chance of redemption

“I feel like the last few week, it's been a bit of a different feeling,” said Anisimova. “I feel like when I was at Wimbledon, every single match was kind of like a surprise to me and I was like shocked with every match that I won. But here it feels like more I believe in myself and I'm able to do it kind of. So I think that's been the shift for me, at least here at the U.S. Open. Yeah, I mean, I'm going to go about it like it's been every other day. Obviously I'm excited, but I'm kind of shutting off all the noise around me and deleting everything from my phone and to just really focus and zone in on my opportunity and do everything that I can to be ready.”
Since the final is being played in New York, it will be either late at night or early in the morning in most countries when the match starts. According to the local time, the final will begin at 04 PM or 16:00 hrs. Some other notable cities' timing is mentioned below.
