Tennis star Danielle Collins announced her decision to retire at the end of the 2024 season, and retired American player Sam Querrey would like to see his compatriot go out in the best way possible, by winning the US Open.
Collins has been superb this season, winning back-to-back titles at the Miami Open and in Charleston. In addition to progressing to the later rounds of other big events, the 30-year old has seen her ranking rise into the Top 10 of the WTA Rankings. She currently sits at World No.8, a spot shy of her career-high ranking of World No.7 in 2022.
In an appearance on The Tennis Channel, Querrey speculated on whether Collins would retire if she won her maiden Grand Slam title at the upcoming US Open. Considering her current form and the local support she's sure to receive, the idea might not be entirely far-fetched.
"What if she wins the US Open? Is she done? Then what?" asked Querrey. "It might be a good way to go out. She's playing amazing this year, she won Miami. She has proven herself that she can win these big events. So, why not win the US Open if you're her?
