After 2 unsuccessful matches for the American, she finally beats new world no.1 and advances into semi-finals of Rogers Cup
It seems like Serena has returned to her best tennis again and has been performing almost perfectly in Toronto so far without losing a set. The young Japanese could be sure already before the match with Williams that she would move to the
1st place in the new edition of the WTA ranking, as her rival for this place Karolina Pliskova lost to crowd favourite Andreescu 0-6, 6-2, 4-6.
The match began slowly when both players held their serve until 4-3 when the American first broke the opponent's service and then won the first set. In the second set, Serena got the break advantage already in the 3rd game and didn't lose it. Even though Osaka has made it harder to finish the match for Serena in the decisive game by turning away 3 match balls. Well, the American guarded the 4th and ended the match with an ace.
Serena will be playing a young Czech qualifier in the semifinals. Bouzkova's performance in Toronto has so far been stunning when she did not lose a set yet in 6 matches. Marie Bouzkova advanced also through Simon Halep, who was forced to give up the match.
