Sofia Kenin continues her winning ride in Toronto when she lost a set only to Barty and reaches career high in WTA ranking after defeating the Ukrainian no.7 Elina Svitolina
Young American is having a great season. After she has won her first and also second WTA title she keeps winning matches on each surface and confirms that neither of her titles was a coincidence.
Kenin played already 3 matches in Toronto, and except the match with Barty, she did not experience any major problems. She defeated Hsieh in 1st round 6-4, 6-3. In the 2nd round, she faced Barty and won 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-4 and she was also successful in 3rd round with Yastremska 6-2, 6-2.
In the quarterfinals of the Rogers Cup Kenin faced Svitolina and she did not start the match ideally. In the first set, she was already losing 4-0 but she was able to turn the course and finally won 7-2 in a tie-break. Afterwards, she controlled also the second set and won it 6-4.
In the new edition of Women's Singles ranking, Kenin will appear on 21st place in the case Andreescu won't succeed in quarter-finals. If Kenin manages to win the tournament in Toronto, she could possibly appear on 15th position and be the best player under 21 years.
