Wimbledon has received the full brunt of the move to ban Russian and Belarusian players from this year's tournament with the WTA fining them £827,000 in the process as reported by the Daily Mail.
They were fined £620,000 and £207,000 respectively as punishment for excluding the players which also includes warm-up tournaments in Eastbourne, Nottingham and Birmingham.
They are set to appeal these fines but interestingly they will have to pay these fines before they can do so due to the WTA appeal process. But they will do so with the backing of the UK Government.
'Since February the vast majority of the international sporting community have come together in solidarity to condemn Putin's barbaric actions in Ukraine,' Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries told Sportsmail.
'Regrettably the international tennis federations appear determined to be outcasts in this. The LTA and Wimbledon should be praised for their move to make Russia an international sporting pariah, and doing what is right in the current circumstances.'
The ATP are expected also to implement disciplinary action but unlike the WTA, this process is yet to begin.
