Iga Swiatek has joined an exclusive group of players by reaching the Round of 32 in 20 consecutive women’s singles Grand Slam draws. Only three other players have achieved this feat: Martina Navratilova, Conchita Martínez, and Arantxa Sánchez Vicario.
The World No. 2 cruised past Rebecca Sramkova 6-0, 6-2 to advance to the third round, where she will face Emma Raducanu. The Polish player has now made it to at least the third round in her last 20 consecutive Grand Slam appearances.
Swiatek is no stranger to records despite her young age. The 5-time Grand Slam champion has been the most consistent player on the WTA Tour over the past five years, particularly in Grand Slam tournaments, where she has the most wins in that span with 80 victories.
During this period, she has never failed to surpass the first two rounds of a major, a record she shares with only three other players. Swiatek now joins the elite group of Martina Navratilova, Conchita Martinez, and Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario, marking a milestone no player had reached in the last 25 years.
Conchita Martinez’s streak spanned from the 1993 Australian Open to the 2000 French Open. Over those years, the Spaniard reached the third round in 30 consecutive majors, won one title (Wimbledon 1994), reached two finals, and made nine semifinal appearances. Her streak ended when she lost in the second round of Wimbledon 2000 to Sonya Jeyaseelan.
Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario reached at least the third round in 25 consecutive Grand Slam tournaments, starting with the 1992 US Open and ending at the 1998 edition of the same event. Her streak concluded at the 1999 Australian Open after a second-round defeat to Barbara Schett.
Martina Navratilova’s streak lasted from Wimbledon 1980 to the 1985 US Open, during which she reached at least the fourth round in 22 consecutive majors. In that span, she won 11 Grand Slam titles and reached two more finals. Her streak ended due to her absence from the 1986 Australian Open, but she continued to make seven more Grand Slam finals, winning four additional titles.
Swiatek’s streak began at the 2020 Australian Open, with 20 consecutive third-round appearances in Grand Slam tournaments so far. She has won five titles during this stretch and holds an impressive 80-14 record.
