The women’s main draw for 2020 Australian Open which will take place in Melbourne, Australia from the 20th of January to the 2nd of February was released.
Women's draw for the 2020
Australian Open promises many interesting first-round matchups. Venus Williams will meet Coco Gauff in a rematch from 2019 Wimbledon where the young American was more successful.
Ashleigh Barty, Naomi Osaka, Petra Kvitova, Venus Williams, and
Serena Williams all meet in one half. Belinda Bencic, Maria Sharapova, Simona Halep, Elina Svitolina, and Karolina Pliskova will form the other.
Donna Vekic received probably the most difficult draw for the first round of the first Grand Slam of the year. She will be facing former world number 1,
Maria Sharapova who received a wild-card.
Serena Williams will meet youngster Potapova and world no. 1 Barty will be facing Lesia Tsurenka. As it always used to be, there are more favorites in women's draw than in
men's draw and therefore the winner can come from any quarter of the draw.
