The Prize
Money and Points Breakdown has been confirmed ahead of the 2024
Qatar Open
Doha, scheduled to take place between February 11-17, 2024. The tournament will
feature 15 players from the top-20 and marks the return of many top players
since the Australian Open, including Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, and Qinwen Zheng.
With a
record
prize money package totaling $3,211,715, the tournament's purse has
quadrupled compared to last year when it was a WTA 500. It is now upgraded to
the new WTA 1000 category.
The main
absence will undoubtedly be the recent Australian Open champion Sabalenka, who
opted for a break during that week. Other notable players missing include
Jessica Pegula (No. 5), Karolina Muchova (No. 10), Madison Keys (No. 16), and
Petra Kvitova (No. 17), who is absent due to pregnancy. Additionally, Dayana
Yastremska (No. 26) and Linda Noskova (No. 28) won't be participating.
Current
world No. 1 Swiatek is the defending champion and has won the title twice
consecutively. She aims for her third trophy, which would make her the most
successful player in the tournament's history. Currently, she shares the record
with Petra Kvitova, Victoria Azarenka, Maria Sharapova, and Anastasia Myskina,
all of whom are two-time champions since the tournament's inception in 2001.
