After it has been announced that the
WTA Finals will be hosted at Riyadh for the final time in 2026, this offers the players one more chance to battle it out for glory in the Middle East before a new location is considered for the future. After the Miami Open, there has been another shake-up to the order.
The aim of the game for these players is to rack up as many points as possible from the plethora of WTA events spread out across the season. The competitors with the most points will make it through the final showcase event from November 9-15.
Aryna Sabalenka tops the list ahead of
Elena Rybakina after
she stormed to glory in Miami. Ahead of the Sunshine swing, Sabalenka had only competed in two events, albeit a title in Brisbane and a final at the Australian Open, which gave her a lot of points. She has now started to accelerate up the order at some rate, aided blissfully by her triumphant run in Florida. The world number one added another 1000 points to her tally.
The reigning WTA Finals champion, Rybakina, again faltered against the sheer power that Sabalenka possesses. A lot more points could have been won but she will have to be content with a semi-final to follow her final defeat a couple of weeks ago. She will be satisfied with another large points haul in her quest to return to Saudi Arabia despite falling to second. She still sits just over 1000 points ahead of Jessica Pegula. Back-to-back quarterfinals bolster her terrific start to the campaign and keep her among the favorites to qualify for the finals.
Elina Svitolina sits in fourth after a rare early exit in 2026. She is in a very good position to return to the WTA Finals for the first time since 2019, although there is a long way to go, so she will need to keep her wits about her. Up a spot is Karolina Muchova in fifth. The Czech has never competed at the WTA Finals despite qualifying in 2023, but this could finally be the year where she breaks new ground. The Miami Open semi-finalist hops above Victoria Mboko who coincidentally was taken down by Muchova at the quarterfinal stage in a repeat of the Qatar Open final.
A big winner from the week was
Coco Gauff. She moved up into seventh after her final appearance marked a possible turn in the tide for the American. While she has experienced some deep runs this year, it has been marred by some concerning tennis. Going onto clay, the 21-year-old seeks a chance to rocket up the order and banish any fears of not qualifying. Mirra Andreeva completes the list after ending what was a disappointing Sunshine swing campaign.

Swiatek drifts away
Amanda Anisimova sits on the cusp of a qualifying position in ninth. It has not been the brightest start to the year for the two-time Grand Slam finalist as she hopes to get some rhythm into her game in a continuation from the stunning form exposed last year, which saw her make her debut in Riyadh.
Belinda Bencic sees out the top 10 after her last-eight result in Florida. Trailing behind is
Iga Swiatek who could be in a spot of bother if events continue to go the way they have been. A second round exit at the Miami Open leaves room for improvement from the 2023 champion. If she can find her prior form then qualification should be a walk in the park but with just one final appearance in 2026 coming at the United Cup, she needs to knuckle down and have a really positive clay swing. Iva Jovic sits on her tail in 12th.
Further down the list Madison Keys can be found in 27th, Jasmine Paolini sits in 30th with Ekaterina Alexandrova falls to 35th. These three appeared in the tournament last year (Alexandrova as an alternative) and are already seeing their chances of returning slashed at this early stage of the season.
