WTA Rankings Update | Elena Rybakina bolsters advantage as World No.1 following latest title success

Elena Rybakina celebrating at the 2025 WTA Finals
There are only a few weeks left of WTA competition, with it being the players' last chance to collect a serious amount of points to add to their WTA rankings tally. The Asian swing still continues, and another couple big tournaments have been played out.
In a relatively quiet week for the top 10, Elena Rybakina was the most productive of the lot, taking home 500 points following her Ningbo Open triumph. This leaves her at square one after successfully defending her triumph from last year.
This is crucial with the World No.1 spot up for grabs at the end of the year. Rybakina has a lot of points on the line at the WTA Finals and could be caught by Aryna Sabalenka. However, the ominous domination in Ningbo extends her buffer and boosts her chance of going into 2027 as the top player.
A number of top 10 talents pulled out of the Ningbo Open. This limited the movement in this part of the order. Linda Noskova saw some points come off, meaning for the time being Iga Swiatek climbs up eighth. A small win after paying the price for missing out on WTA Finals qualification.
Belinda Bencic also tumbles down the order. She won the Pan Pacific Open title last time out, but 500 points will be tricky to win back when Rybakina is headlining the field. She will give it her best shot, hopeful of finding her best form once more. For now, she is on the brink of exiting the top 20.

Fernandez and Siniakova rise, Boulter back as British No.1

It was another solid showing by Leylah Fernandez. She could not repeat her triumph in Singapore, although this time against a much trickier opponent. The Canadian fought and battled through the rounds but is rewarded with a 7-place rise to 23rd as a return to the top 20 creeps closer.
Maria Sakkari makes a return to the top 30. Katie Boulter is back to being the British No.1. Sonay Kartal previously had the bragging rights after her Wuhan Open final run, but for the time being Boulter is back ahead. Her semi-final run at the Japan Open was a welcome result and a step in the right direction.
She would lose to the eventual champion, Katerina Siniakova, who won her first singles title since October 2023. Her reward for this is a stark rise up the rankings. Now can be found in 49th after climbing 37 spots.
Just above her, Ashlyn Krueger managed just one game in that final. The points collected equated to an 11-place rise into 44th.
