The WTA has announced the schedule for the first seven weeks of the 2021 season. Tournaments will take place in three cities, Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Melbourne.
For the first time in WTA history, Zayed Sports City International Tennis Centre in Abu Dhabi will host the WTA 500 tournament between January 5-13, followed by the Australian Open qualifying round on January 10-13 in nearby Dubai. After that, players will travel to Melbourne, embrace the quarantine, and play their first Melbourne encounters in the opening week of February at Melbourne 1 and Melbourne 2 events.
The first Major of the season starts in Melbourne on February 8, with more chances in the following for those who experience an early loss, with the first WTA 250 event of the season taking place at Melbourne Park. Unlike the ATP, the WTA is yet to make their March schedule, waiting for the official news about Indian Wells before taking the next steps. WTA 250 tournaments in Auckland and Shenzhen will not take place in 2021, but will return in 2022.
