Boris Becker has shown his support for
Simona Halep as the former World No. 1 awaits the verdict on her four-year ban from tennis.
Earlier this month Halep had been making her case to CAS for a three-day hearing in the attempt to have her ban reduced. She was found guilty of breaching multiple ITIA (International Tennis Integrity Agency) regulations after testing positive for Roxadustat at the US Open in 2022, and then in May 2023 for irregularities in her biological passport.
Following the end of the hearing, Halep issued a statement on Instagram, where she expressed the relief that her "nightmare that I have lived for a year and a half has finished." In reply to the post, six-time Grand Slam winner Becker said: "Fingers crossed Simo! You deserve the good result and hopefully come back to play more tennis... we have missed you!"
Becker was most recently part of Holger Rune's coaching team at the end of last year, which led to an upturn in form for the Dane. However, they parted ways after the Australian Open, and Rune has now reunited with Halep's former coach Patrick Mouratoglou.
