Emma Raducanu has not competed much during the COVID-19 pandemic which has left her very hungry to succeed.
She flashed some of that hunger at Wimbledon showing just how good of a tennis player she already is. People were sceptical whether that success would translate to other surfaces outside of the grass she grew up on and whether she would hold up against the pressure that got to her at Wimbledon.
She answered all of those questions in New York coming through qualifiers and reaching the 4th round of the event. Speaking after the victory she admitted that not competing during the pandemic has left her hungry for success.
“Once you’re out there [at Grand Slams] you just want to keep going and stay as long as possible."
She also spoke about how she isn't used to playing in front of big crowds yet but she is enjoying the experience. Physically she also said she was feeling fine:
“I’m extremely fresh. I haven’t really played on tour for the whole entire year and this experience is all so new to me.”
The British player will have the chance to do something that she narrowly missed out on at Wimbledon, and that is reaching the quarterfinal. In order to do she will need to go through native Shelby Rogers and the American crowd. Will she be able to handle the pressure remains to be seen.
