China’s tennis star Zheng Qinwen has complained to her team for not giving her an update about the WTA Finals qualification scenario. The mega-event will be organised for the first time this year in Saudi Arabia’s city of Riyadh, where the top eight players in the world will participate to showcase their talent at the highest level.
Qinwen, who is set to take part in the China Open, has been recently quoted in a report where she complained that her team did not keep her inform about the qualification scenario for the mega-event.
"It’s really funny," she said. "I made the final of the Australian Open but after that I didn’t take some tournaments seriously and didn’t get enough points. Judging from the points I have, it’s difficult for me to make the finals this year. I even complained to the team for not telling me earlier about the qualification of the WTA Finals. Now I feel the pressure but I cannot do anything. All I can do is give my best in the competitions."
The 21-year-old is set to begin her campaign at the mega-event against Russia’s Kamilla Rakhimova on Friday. The first meeting will be between the two. The world number seven is going through a good campaign where is 46 matches, she won 33 matches. She ended up winning the gold medal for her country as well where she defeated Croatia’s Donna Vekic in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-3. Other than that, she also won the Palermo Open as she defeated Karolina Muchova in the final with a score of 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. Another impressive performance from the Shiyan-born star came at the start of the year where she finished as the runner-up at the Australian Open. She lost in the final to current world number two Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-2.
