Serbia’s legendary tennis star
Novak Djokovic is once again
having another brilliant year at the highest level.
The 36-year-old, who is often regarded as the greatest
player in the history of men’s singles tennis in the Open era, won his 24th
Grand Slam title in New York recently.
He defeated the current world number three Russia’s Daniil
Medvedev in the final of the US Open with a score of 6-3, 7-6, 6-3.
With that performance, Djokovic ended up winning three out
of the four Grand Slams in 2023.
He lifted the Australian Open after beating Greece’s Stefanos
Tsitsipas in the final with a score of 6–3, 7–6(7–4), 7–6(7–5).
The current world number one then went on to win the French
Open after beating Norway’s Casper Ruud in the final with a score of 7–6(7–1),
6–3, 7–5.
Djokovic’s only defeat in a Grand Slam this year came in the
final at Wimbledon where he lost to Spain’s young sensation Carlos Alcaraz in a
five-set thriller with a score of 1–6, 7–6(8–6), 6–1, 3–6, 6–4.
Despite such a stellar performance, the Belgrade-born can
still break as many as 13 records in the next calendar year.
He can equal most titles at Wimbledon with former world
number one Roger Federer. He can also equal the most US Open triumph with the
likes of Federer as well.
Djokovic can also become the oldest to win Wimbledon. As of
now, Federer holds the record.
Other records which Djokovic can break or equal are:
