With the
conclusion of the 2023 tennis season, a series of exhibitions begins for the
players, starting with the World Tennis League exhibition in Abu Dhabi. The
event has already confirmed the participation of stars such as Aryna Sabalenka,
Iga Swiatek, Daniil Medvedev, and Stefanos Tsitsipas.
From
December 21 to 24, an exciting exhibition will take place with players from the
ATP and WTA returning to Abu Dhabi for a team competition. The tournament was
first held last year and featured teams called The Kites, The Falcons, The
Eagles, and The Hawks in a mixed format. The Hawks emerged as the champions.
Last year's
edition included players like Elena Rybakina, Eugenie Bouchard, Iga Swiatek,
Dominic Thiem, Nick Kyrgios, and Novak Djokovic.
This year,
several players have already been confirmed, with more expected to join in the
coming days. Some of those already confirmed include Aryna Sabalenka, Iga
Swiatek, Elena Rybakina, Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Andrey
Rublev.
Former
world No. 1 Daniil Medvedev shared his thoughts on his participation in the WTL
for the second consecutive year:
“I’m
excited to be returning for this season and really looking forward to seeing
who I’ll be joining on court at this year’s World Tennis League. Last year, we
had a great time on and off the court, and I’m hoping this will help me to
prepare for next season,” former US Open champion said.
Speaking at
the signing, Rajesh Banga, Chairman of the WTL said: “Our Goal from day 1 was
to create an exciting mix of World class sport and entertainment and we are
very excited to be partnering with Abu Dhabi
to bring ‘The Greatest Show On Court’,
to Yas Island.”
HE Aref Al
Awani, General Secretary of Abu Dhabi Sports Council said: “Abu Dhabi is proud
to partner this World class event and we will continue to support the WTL to
make it bigger and better every year. We witnessed an amazing inaugural
tournament and we are sure the fans are going to love while looking forward to
four exciting days of action on the court.”
