2019 US Open Men's Day 2 results: Five out of top 12 seeds now gone in eventful day at Flushing Meadows

The second day of action is complete at the 2019 US Open with Rafael Nadal safely through to the second round but a cull of seeded players occurred in the top 12 at Flushing Meadows.
Five out of the top 12 seeds are now gone from the competition who are Stefanos Tsitsipas, Roberto Bautista Agut, Dominic Thiem (the highest seed to fall); as well as Karen Khachanov and Fabio Fognini.
As a result this hands the initiative back to the main three in Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal; all of whom are now through. Nadal saw off potential banana skin John Millman who shocked Roger Federer last year with ease in a 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 victory.
Also through include the likes of John Isner who is 14th seed on home soil, Alexander Zverev but only just as he nearly became the latest casualty in a tight tie with Radu Albot.
As well as Nick Kyrgios who will hope to get it right finally in a Grand Slam and with most of the seeds now out, there may not be a better opportunity to do so.
