2019 US Open Women’s Day 2 Results: Osaka, Halep and Andreescu all through to Round Two at Flushing Meadows

The Women's draw at the 2019 US Open continues with most of the big names compared to in the men's draw making it through to the second round at Flushing Meadows.
They include number one seed Naomi Osaka; the Japanese ace had to survive a scare though seeing off Anna Blinkova in a 6-4 6-7 (5-7) 6-2 win. Magda Linette is next up for the World Number One on Thursday evening.
Wimbledon champion Simona Halep was also taken the distance by Nicole Gibbs; but claimed a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 victory in the end. Coco Gauff also continued her brilliant form; the 15 year old though came from a set and a break down to defeated Anastasia Potapova 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.
Andreescu impresses but big names fall
Bianca Andreescu, the Rogers Cup champion eased past Katie Volynets 6-2, 6-4; she looked impressive at times to begin her US Open campaign.
The Canadian is seen by many as a potential outside bet for the title; despite looking shaky at certain points, she exhibited why on Court 10.
There was some big names heading out though with Garbine Muguruza; losing to Alison Riske 2-6, 6-1, 6-3. Riske will now face off against Jelena Ostapenko in the next round.
Sloane Stephens also fell at the first hurdle in her home tournament. Stephens was beaten; by qualifier Anna Kalinskaya 3-6, 4-6.
