2019 US Open Women's Day 3 Results: Williams, Svitolina and Barty all move through as rain halts proceedings at Flushing Meadows

Serena Williams was among them as she fought back to defeat American teenager Caty McNally in a brilliant late night US Open tie.

She lost the first set 5-7 but came back to win the final two 6-3, 6-1 including dropping only five points in the final set. Next up for the 23-time Grand Slam champion is Karolina Muchova or Hsieh Su-wei in the third round.

Ashleigh Barty also moved through after battling past Lauren Davis in straight sets (6-2, 7-6). She had to save set points though in the second before winning on her fourth match point after a fairly one sided first set.

Both Williams' sisters aren't involved in the third round though with fifth seed Elina Svitolina accounting for Venus Williams 6-4, 6-4. The 24-year old Ukrainian missed several opportunities to seal the win but she eventually did to see off the two time champion.

It is two years running that Svitolina has reached the fourth round and now she will play either Rebecca Peterson or Dayana Yastremska next.

In a draw that includes the likes of Barty, Keys, Williams and Andreescu, not many have played up the chances of Svitolina but could it be a golden week for the Ukrainian.
