The Abierto Mexicano Telcel in Acapulco is one of 13 ATP 500 series events on the ATP Tour and one of the calendar's most favorite stops.
It all started in 1993, with the names like Thomas Muster, a four-time champion in those early years, Gustavo Kuerten, Carlos Moya, Rafael Nadal, Nicolas Almagro, and David Ferrer all winning the title there on clay. Acapulco switched to hard courts in 2014 to attract the better field, and it certainly paid off, gathering competitors from the very top like in 2017 when Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic led the pack.
Juan Martin del Potro, Nick Kyrgios and Rafael Nadal won the title in the previous three years, and none of them will compete in Acapulco this March, leaving Stefanos Tsitsipas as the top seed. The Australian Open semi-finalist, Alexander Zverev, Diego Schwartzman and Milos Raonic should be the top seeds, ahead of Fabio Fognini, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Grigor Dimitrov and Cristian Garin.
