Dubai Tennis Championships made the quiet appearance in the ATP calendar in 1993, with the modest infrastructure and players' facilities, growing ever since and becoming one of the most prominent events!
The first significant change came with the Aviation Club Tennis Centre opening in 1996 and 2001 when it became the ATP 500 tournament. Over the years, many notable players have lifted the trophy in Dubai, including Goran Ivanisevic, Thomas Muster, Juan Carlos Ferrero, Andy Roddick, Rafael Nadal and Stan Wawrinka. However, the two most standout competitors are
Roger Federer with record-breaking seven titles and Novak Djokovic, who won it five times, including the last season.
Novak Djokovic will not defend the title, but the fans awaited to see Roger Federer in Dubai after playing in Doha. However, the Swiss withdrew and so
Dominic Thiem and
Andrey Rublev will be the top seeds in Dubai. They will face tough competition of
Denis Shapovalov, Stan Wawrinka and Roberto Bautista Agut en route to the title, with the increased draw from 32 to 48 players.
