After cancellation in 2020, the BMW Open in Munich returns in 2021 running from April 26th till May 2nd with an overall financial commitment of €481,270.
The event whose longstanding tradition dates back to 1900 has not been held in 2020 due to the pandemic but it returns in 2021. As an ATP 250 event held on clay it will feature a very strong list of players who favour clay as a surface. The overall financial commitment also drew some star power in as well such as Zverev and Sinner.
The de-facto defending champion is Christian Garin who won the event in 2019 but he is not set to make an appearance which is why we will get a new champion. Besides Zverev and Sinner, we will see clay-court specialists such as Rudd, Lajovic and Sonego as well as Miami Open 2021 champion Hubert Hurkacz.
The winner of this event will get 250 ATP points along with €21,655 while the losing finalist will get a consolation prize of 150 points and €16,000. The semifinalist will get 90 points and €12,000 each with the lower rounds yielding fewer points and prize money.
