The European clay swing starts on Monday with two ATP 250 tournaments, including the inaugural Sardegna Open in Cagliari that brings four top-40 players and a decent field.
There are no top-25 players in the draw, as they play in Marbella or take a rest ahead of the Monte Carlo Masters that goes on in the following week. Daniel Evans, Taylor Fritz, Lorenzo Sonego and Nikoloz Basilashvili are the top seeds, hoping to reach the semis but facing some good opponents en route to the title.
Daniel Evans plays against the young Italian gun Lorenzo Musetti or Dennis Novak in the second round. John Millman, Federico Coria, Laslo Djere and Federico Gaio are also in the top quarter, with the Serb having an excellent chance to reach the semis if he brings his best tennis.
Nikoloz Basilashvili and Jan-Lennard Struff are the seeded players in the second quarter, with four qualifiers looking to spoil their party and earn valuable points. Lorenzo Sonego and Tommy Paul are the top-ranked players in the third quarter, facing Stefanos Travaglia, Gilles Simon, Marco Cecchinato, Thomas Fabbiano and Yannick Hanfmann ina wide-open part of the draw.
The newly-crowned top-ranked American player Taylor Fritz is the 2nd seed, facing Andrej Martin, Jiri Vesely, Giulio Zeppieri, Aljaz Bedene, Egor Gerasimov and Guido Pella in the bottom quarter.
