The Club de Tennis Puente Romano in Marbella will host the ATP 250 event next week, marking the European clay swing alongside Cagliari in Sardinia.
Andrey Rublev and Roberto Bautista Agut decided to withdraw following a deep Miami Open run, while Stan Wawrinka had to skip the event after undergoing minor surgery. Alexander Zverev asked for a wild card but will not use it, deciding to miss the next week and take more time on the practice court ahead of the season's second Masters 1000 tournament in Monte Carlo.
Pablo Carreno Busta is the top seed, facing a qualifier in the second round ahead of the clash against Facundo Bagnis, Francisco Cerundolo and the young Dane Holger Rune, who received a wild card.
Experienced clay-courters Albert Ramos-Vinolas and Federico Delbonis lead the second quarter, facing Lucas Pouille, Ricardas Berankis, Norbert Gombos, Roberto Carballes Baena or Juan Ignacio Londero in the battle for the semis.
Feliciano Lopez and Casper Ruud are the top-ranked players in the third quarter, with Taro Daniel, the young gun Carlos Alcaraz, Mikhail Kukushkin and Gianluca Mager hoping to spoil their party and battle for the semi-final. Fabio Fognini, Jaume Munar, Pedro Martinez and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina are the favorites in the bottom quarter.
