The first WTA 1000 event in 2021 will be the
Miami Open running from March 22nd to April 4th and featuring
prize money of $3,343,785 to be won.
This will be the 36th edition of the Miami Open and it will be the first WTA 1000 event held in 2021. The event will run from March 22nd to April 4th and will feature some of the best in the world including defending champion
Ashleigh Barty. The Australian will return to Miami to defend her title and it will be the first time she played outside Australia in over a year.
She will have stiff competition as all of the top 10 WTA players in the world will attend the event. That includes 2019 finalist
Karolina Pliskova who lost to Ashleigh Barty in the final the last time this event was held. The prize money of $3,343,785 is a reduction of the 2019's ones but that is in line with most events post-pandemic.
Nonetheless, there is plenty of money to be won and the champion will bag 1000 ATP points and $300,110 in prize money. The finalists will have a consolation prize of 600 ATP points and $165,000. The semifinalists will bag $93,000 and 360 ATP points. The lower rounds will feature lower prize money as well as points distribution.
