The 48th edition of the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam takes place next week as the first event of this year's ATP 500 series.
Rafael Nadal should have been the top seed, withdrawing from the tournament on Thursday and leaving Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alexander Zverev and Andrey Rublev to chase the title, alongside four other top-20 players.
In the top quarter, world no. 3 Daniil Medvedev faces Dusan Lajovic in the opening round before a clash against Borna Coric, Alex de Minaur, Kei Nishikori or Felix Auger-Aliassime en route to the semis. If he scores four wins and reaches the final, Medvedev would become only the fifth top-2 player since 2005, passing Rafael Nadal in the elite company.
Alexander Zverev asked for a wild card and will play against Alexander Bublik in the opening round. Reilly Opelka and Roberto Bautista Agut are also in the German's quarter, hoping to spoil his party and advance into the last four. David Goffin, Andrey Rublev and Andy Murray are the main stars in the third quarter, with the Russian as the favorite to pass three obstacles and remain on the title course.
Stan Wawrinka plays against Karen Khachanov in the opening round, and the winner of that one should meet the 2nd seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarters.
