Ahoy Rotterdam Arena will host the 48th edition of the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament next week, introducing this season's ATP 500 series and standing as the biggest indoor ATP event until October.
The first edition took place in 1974, and it became a regular stop in the ATP calendar with a notable list of champions. Arthur Ashe, Jimmy Connors, Bjorn Borg, Guillermo Vilas, Stefan Edberg, Boris Becker, Michael Stich, Goran Ivanisevic, Lleyton Hewitt, Roger Federer, Andy Murray, Juan Martin del Potro and Stan Wawrinka have all won the Rotterdam crown in the past.
This year, we will see a new champion in Rotterdam, and it won't be Rafael Nadal. The Spaniard had to withdraw due to a back issue, leaving Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alexander Zverev and Andrey Rublev as the top seeds. Roberto Bautista Agut, David Goffin, Felix Auger-Aliassime, and Stan Wawrinka will also try to fight for the crown in Rotterdam as they will seek their first title.
But there's much more offered at the 2021 ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam. With a total financial commitment of over 1 million €, the players will divide a hefty of prize money and points. The 2021 champion will take home 89,265€ alongside 500 points for the ATP Rankings.
That would be enough for Daniil Medvedev to surpass Rafael Nadal in the ATP Rankings and become the first player to be world no. 2 except for Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray since 2005.
The runner-up will take home 66,000€ and 300 points with the semifinalists sharing 47,000€ and 18% points. Quarterfinalists will be awarded 32,000€ and 90 points while the players that lose in the 2nd round get 20,000€ and 45 points. Players that fail to get through the gates of the first round will see 11,500€ and 20 points added to their accounts.
