The 2022
Davis Cup Finals should feature a new format and several host cities in a leak reported by The Telegraph.
Rumors about the plan have been circulating for a few days with many former and current players commenting on the plan. Some have expressed understanding for it like Djokovic while others have been very harsh in their criticism like Hewitt. The plan and schedule for the event have now been reported by The Telegraph.
The competition is set to have 16 teams that will be spread out in 4 European cities that will act as host cities for the groups. Eight teams are set to make it to the knockout stages that will be held in Abu Dhabi. The rumors about the competition moving to the Persian Gulf appear to be true as the knockout stages will take place in Abu Dhabi according to the report.
It's a logistically challenging plan that is very ambitious but since Kosmos's takeover of the Davis Cup, the competition has changed in every iteration. That signals a clear intention of maximizing its potential regardless of the feelings of the general public. It will need to get approved to go ahead but what do you think. Do you like the proposal?
