Patrick
Mouratoglou organized the 2023 Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS) featuring Taylor
Fritz,
Frances Tiafoe,
Ben Shelton among other players.
The
exhibition tournament will take place in Los Angeles from July 21st to July
23rd. The tournament format will be similar to the ATP Finals or Next Gen ATP
Finals, with eight male players competing in group stages, followed by
semifinals and finals.
The first
two days will feature six matches to determine the four players who will
advance to the final stage.
Day 1
On the
first day, the action kicks off with a match between Argentine Diego
Schwartzman and Frenchman
Benoit Paire, who replaced the injured
Nick Kyrgios. Following
that, two Americans, Ben Shelton and Frances Tiafoe (coached by Kyrgios), will
take the court.
Local favorite
Taylor Fritz will then face Chinese player
Yibing Wu. The French former world No. 6
Gael Monfils will also play against
Tiafoe in his first match of the day. The last two matches of the day will see
Alexander Bublik from Kazakhstan facing off against Shelton, and Paire against
Wu.
Day 2
The action
resumes with Taylor Fritz playing against Benoit Paire, followed by Shelton, 20
years old, taking on Monfils, 36 years old. The third match of the day will
feature a clash between Frances Tiafoe and Alexander Bublik, followed by Fritz
facing Schwartzman.
An exciting
match between the talented Bublik and Monfils will surely entertain the fans.
The day concludes with Schwartzman back on the court, facing Yibing Wu to
determine the finalists.
Final Four
On Sunday,
the Final Four takes place, featuring two semifinal matches, and finally, the
grand final. The event will culminate with the awards ceremony, bringing the
championship in Los Angeles to a close.
