Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz and Poland’s Iga Swiatek will be the top-seeded players at Wimbledon this year.
The third Grand Slam of 2023 will be played from 03-16 July in London. According to a report published in the Independent, Alcaraz will be top-seed in the men’s singles category whereas Swiatek will be the top-seed player in the women’s singles category.
Alcaraz has been in phenomenal form this year where he has lost just four out of 44 matches. On the other hand, Swiatek, who is also the world number one, has lost just six times in 42 outings in 2023.
Defending champion Serbia’s Novak Djokovic, who has won Wimbledon four times in a row since 2018, is the second-seed player in the men’s singles category.
His last defeat in the competition came back in 2017 against Tomas Berdych in the quarterfinals where the 36-year-old was forced to retire because of an injury in his right arm.
Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina, who clinched the title last year in the women’s singles category, is seeded third this year.
Former world number one and two-time Wimbledon champion Andy Murray has not been included in the seeded players category. The draw will take place on Friday, 30 June when the final schedule for this year’s mega-event will be announced.
The prize money of the tournament is also increased by 10.9 from last year. In the men’s category, the money distributed will be more than £3.21 million.
The winners of both men’s and women’s single categories will take £2.35 million home, an increase of more than 17 per cent compared to the last year.
