2024 Wimbledon Day Two Schedule and Preview - Tuesday 2 July including Djokovic, Swiatek and Vondrousova

The Order of Play and Schedule is confirmed for Day Two of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships with Novak Djokovic, Iga Swiatek and Marketa Vondrousova among the leading lights involved at SW19 on Tuesday 2 July.

Our preview takes you through the leading matches and talking points ahead of Day Two with another top day of action with some question marks though on whether the schedule will remain the same.

As expected, Andy Murray is set to play on Centre Court on Tuesday. This is despite the former two-time Wimbledon champion and former World No.1 being injured with a spinal cyst that could yet see him ruled out in similar but more high profile court wise than Aryna Sabalenka.

He said he is set to make his decision on Monday night after training today in which he had a winning practice set against Kyle Edmund. His name actually appearing in the schedule does give a sign that he will play. But how he will play remains to be seen.

Those who watched Queen's will have bad memories of watching him play for a few games against Jordan Thompson. Albeit the Aussie was more likely to punish him given that he is a proficient grass court player. Compared to Machac who hasn't had success on this surface previously and might struggle with the weight of the occasion.

He is pencilled in to the final slot on Centre Court and will likely have some semblance of a ceremony if he loses with it being his Wimbledon farewell. So expect a longer day tomorrow on the main court if he does play. But if he doesn't, the organisers have seemingly moved to add as many matches they can easily shift.

For instance, World No.1 Iga Swiatek won't play on Centre Court with the leading light of WTA Tennis set to take on Sofia Kenin. That is set for the same time in that final slot so can be an easy one to add in if Murray doesn't play.

It is a day of recently injured players on Centre Court with Novak Djokovic making his miraculous return to Wimbledon amid a recent meniscus tear which many thought would see him out of the grass court major. But Djokovic being how he is both conditioned and with the will to win made the recovery. How he will play remains to be seen.

He has struggled as of late e.g Luca Nardi and Alejandro Tabilo and even against Dino Prizmic at the Australian Open in players who have nothing to lose. So step up Vit Kopriva who will hope to catch Djokovic early. Usually when the 24-time Grand Slam champion is at his most vulnerable is at the early stages. But given how good his draw is, it is a catch me while you can facet with Djokovic. He is second on.

While opening up is Marketa Vondrousova. She makes her return to SW19 for the first time since winning the title 12 months ago defeating Ons Jabeur in the final. Admitting in her pre-tournament press that she is fine amid injury doubts, she has not had the best time of it since becoming the champion. She has struggled with injury and hasn't been on the court a lot. Even recently, she had to pull out mid match in Berlin after falling. So it hasn't been her time and she faces Jessica Bouzas Maneiro with all the pomp and circumstance of being the defending champion.

In reality though, it is the outside courts which gleam the most top ties. As ever the Centre Court is a box ticking exercise in getting the top names on even if they're not in form or in quite poor games.

But for those from Court 1 onwards tomorrow, it is a top day. Alexander Zverev will face Roberto Carballes Baena in his opener and given his lack of grass prowess, it could be a tie on upset watch. While Elena Rybakina opened Centre Court this time last year, she opens Court 1 this time.

She faces Elena-Gabriela Ruse. Jessica Pegula is on Court Two facing compatriot Ashlyn Krueger. This is on a court that also features Ons Jabeur, a two-time back-to-back finalist as well as Jack Draper, the latest British hope. He could be the one to shift on to the Centre Court too and could be a contender.

Katie Boulter, Danielle Collins, former champion Angelique Kerber and Elina Svitolina are all also in action. Stars all over the place starting their campaigns. So aside from the Djokovic and Murray's of the world, there is plenty to get stuck into on Day Two.
