Novak Djokovic secured victory over Danil Medvedev in the US Open final, adding another chapter to his historic career with his 24th Grand Slam title.
The Serbian once again clinched a Grand Slam title, his third of the season and the 24th of his career, extending his lead over Rafael Nadal, who has 22 Grand Slam titles. Djokovic also equaled Margaret Court's record as the all-time leader in Grand Slam victories.
'Nole' took an early lead with a quick break of serve in the second game of the match, and within minutes, he was 3-0 up against the Russian. Right from the start, Djokovic was dominant and did not give Medvedev a chance to secure a break point. Although Djokovic had two set points with the score at 5-2, Medvedev fought back, but Djokovic eventually closed out the set with his serve, winning it 6-3.
The second set was the most closely contested and featured several lengthy games. Both players held their serve, and 'Nole' had a break point opportunity but couldn't capitalize on it. In the following game, Medvedev also failed to convert a break point, and the set extended to a tiebreak with Medvedev squandering a set point. Despite being in the lead, Medvedev couldn't maintain his composure in the tiebreak, eventually conceding the second set to Djokovic.
With a two-set advantage, the final outcome seemed inevitable. Medvedev lost his serve in the fourth game of the third set, trailing 3-1. Although he managed to break back to make it 3-2, Djokovic once again took control by breaking his opponent's serve, leading 4-2.
With limited opportunities for Medvedev, Djokovic continued his relentless pursuit of victory, eventually winning the match 6-3, 7-6(5), 6-3.
In addition to claiming his 24th Grand Slam title and his fourth US Open, Djokovic will regain the world No. 1 ranking on Monday, a position he secured early in the tournament due to the minimal points difference with Carlos Alcaraz.
