Barcelona es un torneo especial para mi, porque es mi club de adopción y porque jugar en casa es siempre una sensación única. Aún no me encuentro preparado y sigo, por tanto, mi proceso de preparación para la vuelta a la competición.
Spain’s legendary tennis star Rafael Nadal has extended his lead on social media platform Instagram.
The 37-year-old is being termed by many as one of the greatest players of all time in the history of the men’s singles tennis category in the Open era.
Nadal has not just delivered on the court over the years but he is still delivering off the court as well where he became the first tennis player to have 20 million followers on Instagram.
He has roughly three million more followers than the former women's world number one America’s Serena Williams.
Nadal's closest rivals, current world number one Serbia’s Novak Djokovic and the 20-time Grand Slam winner Roger Federer, have 13.7 and 12 million followers on the social media platform, respectively.
Nadal is currently spending time on the sidelines after struggling with fitness concerns. It was because of this reason, the former world number one did not feature in three out of the four Grand Slams this year.
The Mallorca-born is one of the most successful players in the men’s singles category in the Open era, having won 22 Grand Slams in his illustrious career.
Nadal’s most successful competition has been the French Open where he lifted the title for record 14 times.
His first major title triumph came in 2005 while playing at the Roland Garros where he defeated Argentina’s Mariano Puerta in the final with a score of 6–7(6–8), 6–3, 6–1, 7–5.
His last major title till now was also the French Open victory in 2022 where he got the better of Norway’s Casper Ruud in the final in straight sets with a score of 6–3, 6–3, 6–0.
This year, Nadal appeared in the Australian Open where he was surprisingly defeated by America’s Mackenzie McDonald in the second round in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-4, 6-7.
Barcelona es un torneo especial para mi, porque es mi club de adopción y porque jugar en casa es siempre una sensación única. Aún no me encuentro preparado y sigo, por tanto, mi proceso de preparación para la vuelta a la competición.
