"I fight fire with fire." 🔥 Afternoon session recap from @DDFTennis ⤵️
Coco Gauff advanced to the 3rd round of the Dubai Duty Free Championships today with a victory over Marketa Vondrousova and after the match, she spoke to the media.
Coco Gauff continued to play well on Tuesday despite a shaky start that saw her lose the opening set against Marketa Vondrousova. In the end, she was able to turn the match around and win it advancing to the Dubai Duty Free Championships 3rd round. When she spoke after the match she said she was not bothered by the fact it went the full distance:
"It doesn't bother me. Obviously, I like to close in two, but a win is a win and if it takes three sets, I'm willing to play three sets."
In the 3rd set, there was a bit of an on-court disagreement between the players when Gauff asked the umpire a question. After the match, the American explained that it was not meant to upset Vondrousova but she could tell it did. She herself remained calm which she explained with:
"My personality, I fight fire with fire. I lost the last two points of that game and she had wild screams - and I like to scream, so I screamed back."
In the end, it was a great effort from Gauff which saw her advance deservedly to the next round. Whether she can keep it up remains to be seen.
