Garbine Muguruza only had two days between her final match in Doha and her Dubai debut and she was happy to keep the match short in two sets.
Nine-seeded Muguruza overcame a solid effort from Begu in the first round of the Dubai Duty Free Championships to advance to the next round. It was a solid 6-3 7-5 victory for Muguruza who called the match challenging after it was completed. Speaking on it she said:
"It definitely was a challenge, because they’re definitely different tournaments and conditions. I’m just happy that I fought as much as I could, and closed the match in two sets."
And it was a key for Muguruza to keep it short as she only had two days off from her last match in Doha. She reached the final there but lost rather easily to Petra Kvitova. For this match she was well prepared which ultimately helped her:
"[Begu and I] have played before, we’ve also trained together, so we know each other’s games. I gave her a big battle and in important moments I tried to be very focused and be smart and efficient."
The Spaniard will take on Amanda Anisimova next who is making her return to tennis after an absence in Doha. You can follow that match and all other matches by clicking here!
