Andy Murray will take part in the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati however former world number four Greg Rusedski doesn't think Murray can be a threat.
Andy Murray shut down retirement rumours numerous times in the past years. He always maintained his will and desire to continue playing believing himself capable of performing at the highest level. Murray won 14 Masters titles in his career and former pro Greg Rusedski believes he will never win a 15th:
"It’s absolutely absurd. There is no possible way that he can win a Masters 1000 title [again]. [He’s continuing to play] for the love of the game. There’s only one reason. He still wants to play, he still wants to be competitive."
Murray's belief in himself was shaken at Wimbledon where the Brit performed worse than he believed himself capable. After the event, Murray was reserved in proclaiming his belief of being a top player again. Rusedski further continued:
“And, I find it really strange. To be such a great champion, being able to accept winning one or two matches a week. Obviously he’s still enjoying doing it. But, you know, that’s the thing where you come through that conundrum where you think ‘Ok, shall I play shall I not play?’ But, Obviously, he still loves it. I’d love to be proved wrong…but I just don’t see it happening.”
