Daria Kasatkina complained about the Western & Southern Open prize money ahead of the event and Barbora Krejcikova removed any doubt with a quick smashing.
The Czech player had no regard for her fellow pro whom she sent packing in rather quick fashion 6-3 6-2. Krejcikova was stellar from the get-go as the Russian struggled to handle the shotmaking of Krejcikova. The French Open champion is slowly emerging as one of the better hard court players on tour.
Krejcikova was able to jump out to an early 3-1 lead despite Kasatkina having a great chance to pull it back. The Russian had 0-40 in a game however failed to use the break points. From there Krejcikova cruised to a 6-3 finish despite hitting her 1st serve less than 50 % of the time.
The 2nd set was even more impressive from Krejcikova who raised her first serve percentage which allowed her to win her games with ease. Kasatkina struggled a lot on her own serve getting broken twice early in the 2nd set giving a 4-0 lead to Krejcikova.
Kasatkina was able to stabilize a bit later but the damage was already won and Krejcikova was able to get her Western & Southern Open campaign off to a great start.
